Privacy Policy

The short version: your steps, goals and app choices stay on your phone. StepGate has no accounts and no ads. The only thing that leaves your device is anonymous purchase and paywall activity for StepGate Plus, handled by Apple and our paywall provider, Superwall.

What StepGate accesses, and why

Step count (HealthKit and Motion & Fitness). StepGate reads your daily step count and step history so it knows when you've hit your goal and can draw your charts and streaks. StepGate never writes to Health, and your health data never leaves your device. Health data is never used for marketing, advertising, or data mining.
Screen Time (Family Controls). When you choose apps to gate, iOS hands StepGate opaque tokens — StepGate cannot see which apps you picked, and Apple designed it that way. The shield that blocks your apps runs entirely on-device through Apple's ManagedSettings framework. StepGate uses individual authorization: you managing yourself, not a parental-control service.
Notifications. Only if you allow them, and only for goal reminders and unlock alerts generated on your phone.

What StepGate collects

Your steps, goals, streaks and gated apps: nothing. They are never sent anywhere. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no advertising identifiers, and no cross-app tracking.

StepGate Plus purchases. Subscriptions are processed by Apple under Apple's privacy policy; StepGate never sees your payment details. To show the paywall and know whether Plus is active, StepGate uses the Superwall SDK, which sends purchase history (trial started, subscribed, expired) and basic device information — an anonymous random identifier, app and iOS version, device model, language, timezone and the country derived from your IP address — to Superwall's servers. This data is not linked to your identity and is not used for advertising or tracking. In App Store terms it is "Purchases" data collected for app functionality and analytics. Where your data lives

Your settings, goals, streaks, and gated-app selection are stored on your device (and in the app's shared container so its widgets and shield extensions can read them). Deleting StepGate deletes this data. You can also revoke Health access at any time in the Health app, and Screen Time access in Settings.

Children

StepGate is a self-control tool for people managing their own screen time. It is not a parental-control or child-monitoring product and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, children included — because it collects no data at all.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of StepGate ever changes how data is handled (for example, optional iCloud sync), this policy will be updated first and the change will be called out in the App Store release notes.
